Book Review: A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

Oh, where do I even begin? “A Court of Thorns and Roses” by Sarah J. Maas has utterly consumed me. I had been hesitant at first, letting it sit on my shelf, but once I cracked it open, there was no turning back. The world Maas crafts is rich, immersive, and absolutely enthralling. Every page left me hungry for more, desperate to uncover the secrets hidden within the treacherous land of the Fae.

Feyre Archeron, our fierce and determined huntress, pulls you into her story with such intensity that it’s almost impossible to escape. Her journey from a mortal struggling to survive to becoming intertwined with the dangerous, immortal world of the Fae is nothing short of mesmerizing. Though being inside her head can sometimes feel overwhelming—her thoughts are often dark, intense, and heavy—this deep connection to her character only makes the experience more profound.

Tamlin, initially, seemed like the perfect brooding hero, mysterious and powerful as the High Lord of the Spring Court. But then, oh, then, Rhysand entered the scene, and my world turned upside down. I began to question everything—how could I like one and then the other, and be so conflicted about both? Rhysand’s character is an enigma, and just when you think you’ve figured him out, Maas throws another twist that leaves you reeling.

And let’s not forget Lucien! What a character! His sharp wit and loyalty add layers to the story, making him someone to keep an eye on. Then there’s the Calanmai festival—oh boy, that was a shocker. It’s a moment that truly drives home the wild, untamed nature of this world Maas has created. But fantasy is fantasy, and I eagerly swallowed the shock and plunged ahead.

The transformation of Feyre’s feelings, from icy hostility towards Tamlin to a burning passion, is written with such intensity that you can feel the fire in your veins. But as their relationship deepens, shadows lurk, secrets unfold, and the tension mounts until you’re left gasping, needing to know what happens next.

This series is a masterclass in blending romance, danger, and fantasy. If you haven’t started it yet, what are you waiting for? Prepare yourself because once you dive in, there’s no coming back. Maas has a way of gripping your heart and refusing to let go, and honestly, I’m not sure I ever want her to.

“Highlights”

  • ACOTAR is just the beginning – a prologue, if you will. The real adventure begins after that book, starting with the thrilling final chapters of ACOTAR and unfolding into something even more extraordinary.
  • ACOTAR started out slow and mundane, like watching the paint dry. 😆😆 But it got hopeful towards the end, and I thought, “This could be interesting.” 😊 Then came the second book – absolutely great! I couldn’t put it down; before I knew it, I had devoured the whole series.😇
